How is it?
Ferocactus histrix It is the scientific name of a cactus native to Mexico that was described by Augustin Pyrame de Candolle and George Edmund Lindsay and that was published in Cactus and Succulent Journal in 1955.
It is a globular succulent plant, which can reach 60-70cm in height by 30cm in diameter. Once adult, it can have up to 25 ribs, armed with radial spines up to 4cm long. The flowers bloom in summer, and are small, yellow in color. Its fruits are edible.
What are their cares?
If you decide to get a copy you must bear in mind that it has to be in direct sunlight to be able to be well, but it is important that you get used to the star king little by little, starting in autumn, since otherwise it will burn right away. What's more, you must water it little, about 2 times a week in summer and every 10-15 days the rest of the year.
During the warm season it is advisable to pay it with a cactus fertilizer following the instructions specified on the packaging, or with Nitrofoska Azul. This way, you will not lack for anything and you will have optimal growth and development.
For the rest, you will not have to worry too much about the cold since withstands weak frosts down to -3ºC, but it is highly recommended to protect it from hail as it tends to suffer damage, especially if it is young.
