El Aloe aristata It is a beautiful succulent or succulent non-cactus plant that will look great in any corner of the patio or balcony. In addition, due to its size it can even be had in the garden, forming part of a wonderful rockery.
Es very easy to care, so much so that to have a perfectly healthy specimen you will not have the need to complicate yourself at all.
Aloe aristata is the scientific name of a succulent plant native to South Africa It was described by Adrian Hardy Haworth and published in Philopphical Magazine in October 1825. It is popularly known as a torch plant.
It is characterized by growing forming rosettes formed by triangular, leathery, dark green leaves with white dots. It reaches a height of about 20 centimeters and a diameter of 15 to 30cm. Flowers sprout in spring and are grouped into spike-shaped inflorescences.
Its cultivation is very simple: to have your specimen healthy you have to put it in full sun or in semi-shade, with substrate -or soil, if it were in the garden- that has good drainage, water it 2 or a maximum of 3 times a week, and remember to fertilize it in spring and summer with a specific fertilizer for cacti and succulent plants following the indications specified in the product packaging.
And if you feel like it multiply itYou can do it in spring or summer in two different ways: by separating the suckers and planting them in individual pots or in other parts of the garden, or by sowing their seeds in a seedbed with universal growing substrate mixed with perlite in equal parts.
By the way, you can have your Aloe aristata outdoors all year long if the temperature does not drop below -2ºC; otherwise, the ideal would be to protect it inside the home, in a room where a lot of natural light enters.
Hi there! Thanks for the information Monica. I would like to ask you how much temperature this plant can hold and if it is happy in a dry environment, I would like to have it in my room and the problem could be the central heating in my building reaching 21 degrees in winter. And I would like to ask you if you know if I would have a problem having it in the same room where I sleep ... do you know if it can be harmful? Or else do you know if it purifies the air?
Thank you very much!
Hi Elias.
Aloe aristata is one of the few varieties of Aloe that does not edit me as much sun as the others, so you should not have problems with it.
I don't know if it purifies the air, but you can sleep with it in the room 😉 The amount of oxygen that a plant like this absorbs is very very small. In fact, for a person to have problems they would have to have a jungle in their bedroom, so enjoy your aloe 🙂
Greetings.
Hi there! Thanks for the info. I wanted to know something, and that is that the stem of my plant is turning yellow and brittle, and the flowers have already dried. I would like to know if that is simply because we are already entering fall or if I am doing something wrong. Thanks in advance!
Hello Natalia.
If the plant is fine, no problem.
The flower stem is normal to yellow and dry 🙂
A greeting.
Hi Monica, they just gave me a small one, it is in a very small pot and I would like to know when I can change it to a larger pot and of what size. I live in an apartment and it is impossible for me to plant in the garden.
I hope you can guide me,
Thank you very much.
Hello Daniela.
You can transplant it in late winter, or early spring.
The pot has to be about 5cm wider than the one you have now.
Greetings.
