How is the hibernation of the cactus?
Plant hibernation is a state of lethargy in which plants remain during the winter. In the case of cacti, stop growing when the thermometer drops below 10 degrees Celsius. By doing so, they no longer grow, but their vital functions remain intact, yes, they are done at a much slower rate. In these months, what matters is to adapt as best as possible to the new weather conditions.
Their root system keeps them alive, since during spring and summer it has been able to absorb the water and nutrients that are now part of the succulent's reserves. When the weather improves, they will resume their growth.
How to care for a cactus that is hibernating?
During the autumn and, above all, winter months, the cactus must be protected from frost to prevent them from "burning" it, for example by placing it in a greenhouse or a room with plenty of natural light. It will also be very important space out the risks. The substrate or soil must be completely dry before watering it again, otherwise the risk of rotting will be very high.
