How to treat fusariosis in succulents?

Fusarium

Both cacti, succulents and caudiciform plants can be affected by the fungus Fusarium that causes the fusarium. And it is when they are watered excessively or if they receive a lot of rainwater being planted in a land that has very poor drainage, it is very easy for this microorganism to cause them many problems.

But do not worry: not only can it be prevented but it can also save your beloved diseased plants. All you have to do is follow the advice that I offer you below.

What is it?

Fusarium disease, as we have mentioned, is caused by the Fusarium fungus. East it is a microorganism found in the earth, where it remains waiting for the warm and humid weather of spring to come to fruition and thus emit its spores which will be transported by the wind.

What are the symptoms?

The symptoms that succulents have are the following:

  • Stem wilting, which runs from the roots upwards
  • Stem rot
  • Growth slowdown
  • Loss of natural color
  • Leaf fall if I had them
  • Death

How do you fight?

To prevent the advance of the disease, what has to be done is cut to the chase with a serrated knife previously disinfected with pharmacy alcohol, let the wound dry of what is now cuttings for a week and then plant it in a pot with substrate that drains well, such as cheek or akadama. Treating it with a spray fungicide is also highly recommended, just in case.

Can it be prevented?

Pumice

Fortunately, yes. The way to prevent fusariosis is by controlling irrigation and using substrates that drain water well. In this way, unnecessary risks are avoided.

Have you had any doubts? Do not leave them in the inkwell. Question. 🙂

    Hello Monica!
I have a question regarding this issue, they gave me a cactus (I don't know the type, but it is the most common, which is like a ball), there were 4 cacti in the same pot that shared roots, and there was a moment when one of them died. them, so I decided to separate them and change them pot, with specific cactus soil.
Right now, I have two in one pot and one in another; after transplanting them they've all shrunk a bit, and i don't know if they have mealy bugs or something but i don't see them as chubby as they were
What I can do? All the best.

      Hi Chloé.

Can you send us a photo to our profile Facebook? There may be something wrong with the irrigation.

      Regards!

Hi there! The leaves of my succulents have become black and soft and are falling one by one. I no longer know what to do, I have controlled the irrigation to make it less, I have changed their place because on the balcony although the direct sun does not give them the temperature is between 30-35 degrees

      Hello Elisa.

And what is the land like? When planted in heavy, compact soil they can rot quickly. That is why it is important that the substrate has pearlite, pumice or the like.

We must also avoid putting a plate under the pots, unless we remember after draining it after each watering.

Just in case, I recommend treating them with fungicides that contain copper, since if they have suffered excess water it is possible that the fungi will harm them more.

      Greetings.
