hoodia gordonii is the scientific name of a succulent plant native to southern Africa that was described by Francis Masson, Robert Sweet, and Joseph Decaisne and published in Prodromus Systematis Naturalis Regni Vegetabilis in 1844.

Develops angular stems with brown spines up to 50-75cm tall and 2-3cm thick. The flowers are 8-10cm in diameter, and have a corolla with five light purple welded lobes. The fruit is V-shaped and about 12cm long.
