Cacti are plants that produce beautiful flowers. Although they are very short-lived, they are so beautiful that they can easily compete with orchids, the considered queens of the world of flowers, which is still an incredible event, since succulents live in an arid environment. But perhaps for this reason its colors are so attractive.
However, sometimes it can take a long time before we get to enjoy its beauty. Although fortunately we can shorten it a bit. For it, I'm going to explain how to make a cactus bloom.
Change it pot
We tend to make the mistake of thinking that the cacti we buy do not need transplantation, but the reality is that if we don't change them to a 3-4cm bigger pot they will surely not bloom. Therefore, we have to transplant them in spring, when the risk of frost has passed, and again after 2-3 years. Thus, we will ensure that the roots have the space they need for their development.
Use a new substrate that drains well
Drainage is essential for cacti to live, as they do not tolerate waterlogging. That's why black peat must be mixed with perlite in equal parts, or use sandy-type substrates, like pomx or washed river sand.
Water and fertilize whenever necessary
That cacti resist drought is not entirely true 🙂. If we do not water them every time they need it, that is, every time the substrate is completely dry, it is most likely that they will not grow or have the strength to flourish.. Likewise, from spring to late summer we have to fertilize it with a liquid cactus fertilizer following the instructions specified on the package, or with one or two small tablespoons -depending on the size of the plant- of Nitrofoska Azul.
Place it in a bright area
In order for it to produce flowers, it must be in direct sunlight, if possible. As soon as you buy it, and especially if they had it in a greenhouse, we have to place it outside (Except if frost occurs, in which case we will keep it inside in a very bright room until temperatures improve). You have to get used to the direct light of the sun little by little, exposing it in the morning for the first 15 days for 2 hours, in the next 15 days 3 hours, and thus gradually increasing the time.
With these tips, sure that sooner or later you will have cactus with flowers 🙂.
