Stem cuttings

Aeonium arboreum 'Sunburst'

Aeonium arboreum 'Sunburst'

There are some succulents that can be multiplied by stem cuttings, such is the case of, for example, Aeoniums. To do this, just you have to cut a stem with scissors previously disinfected with pharmacy alcohol and plant it in a pot with substrate that has good drainage, like the following mixture: black peat with 50% perlite.

Keep it in semi-shade, with the soil always slightly damp, and you will see how in about 15-20 days it will begin to emit its own roots.

Leaf cuttings

Some succulent plants, such as Echeveria or Fenestraria, can be multiplied by leaf cuttings. Take the healthiest ones, lay them face up in a pot or tray with vermiculite or with the substrate mentioned above, and cover its end (where the roots will come out) with a little soil.

Keep them in semi-shade and always keep them a little damp. Use a sprayer to water the substrate, and do not wet the leaves. Over the course of a week or two they will begin to root.

The suckers are replicas of the mother plants. They are not cuttings as such, but they are parts of the succulents that also root very well. To separate them you just have to wait for them to be of a manageable size, dig a little into the substrate and carefully remove them. Then, you just have to plant them in a pot with substrate in semi-shade or full sun (depending on whether the mother plant was exposed to the sun or not) and water them.

Simple, right? If you have doubts, do not leave them in the inkwell 🙂.
